Novel[]
Tensions between martial masters Hae-ak-cheon and Seogalma escalate when Hae-ak-cheon declares that his disciples are superior to Seogalma's. This comment provokes surprise and indignation, leading to a challenge to prove the claim through a confrontation between the disciples.
Seogalma, confident in the experience and skill of his students, proposes a contest to determine who has the strongest disciples. Hae-ak-cheon, while recognizing the temporal disadvantage of his disciples, accepts the challenge, but suggests that the fight take place without the use of internal energy, relying only on basic skills. Seogalma, initially skeptical, laughs at the proposal, as he believes that his disciples will still have the advantage due to their accumulated experience.
Faced with this provocation, Seogalma decides to raise the stakes and suggests a life-or-death fight, where losing could mean mutilation or death. The hidden intention behind this proposal is to eliminate a possible powerful rival, Hae-ak-cheon's disciple, before he can grow any stronger. Hae-ak-cheon hesitates momentarily, as he understands the risk of sending his disciple to his death.
At this point, the heroine Baekryeon-ha, who was being used as a pretext for the duel, intervenes and accepts the competition, but imposes her own condition: to be her wife, the winner must be stronger than her. This surprises everyone, as no one fully understands her martial skills. She proposes that, if she wins, the two martial masters—Hae-ak-cheon and Seogalma—align themselves with her.
This turn of events changes the course of the confrontation, making it more than a simple dispute of pride between the masters. Now it is a shift in the balance of power, where Baekryeon-ha can gain important allies in her quest to consolidate her position.
Seogalma, realizing that refusing would destroy her reputation and invalidate her justification for the confrontation, accepts the challenge. The fight between the disciples, now officially scheduled, becomes an event of great importance.
Hae-ak-cheon's disciple, determined to fight fairly, requests that his internal energy be sealed using an acupuncture technique. Seogalma, suspicious of the young man's confidence, checks his energy and confirms that he is at the first-class level, which reassures him. To ensure fairness, the same procedure is applied to Seogalma's disciple.
With the conditions set, everyone steps back to observe the fight. Meanwhile, the protagonist's brother, Song Ja-baek, expresses concern, understanding that this is not a simple fight, but a confrontation where life is at stake. He warns the protagonist to give up if he feels the situation becomes untenable.
The decisive fight is about to begin, with each side putting not only their honor but also their fate on the line.
