The Moonless Void Sword (무월공검) is a sword technique created by Sima Chak. It is one of the most powerful sword techniques of the Old Murim. It is a part of five legendary sword techniques that symbolizes the previous era.
History[]
The most famous user of this martial art is Sima Chak, Wicked Moon Sword. He is also the most important one, because of him the rest of the users could learn this magnificent technique. He is also the one that improved this the most till the time of Cheon Ma hundreds of years later. Showing his life's work to Heavenly Demon, he inspired him to create Demon sword arts.
Sima Chak maintain neutrality and did not join officially any faction. That why his technique was also bounded to no forces, however, that changed after his only daughter Sima Young married Jin Woon-Hwi who later found out that he was the heir of Storm Shadow Eight Forms Order. Because of this his martial arts became part of legacy of Mushang Castle future generations and Jin Family.
After day of the Great Calamity where near 80% of martial art world experts died, Mushang Castle was annihilated with most of the Jin Woon-Hwi descendants. After those events Ryu Sowol family inherited part of the martial arts of Moonless Void Sword thanks to the only survivor of the Mushang Castle and became Moon Vein. This new clan became known from their unique Moon sword techniques that originate from Moonless Void Sword(i.e. not the actual full Moonless Void Sword).[1]
Unfortunately, Moon Vein was also annihilated, and the remaining secrets of this organization was lost. Ryu Sowol who was full of resentment became a vengeful spirit that existed more than hundreds of years. After this long time thanks to the fate, she meets Cheon Ma at the beginning of his journey. She passed on her teachings and martial arts to him. Heavenly Demon later meet Sima Chak who showed him his improved version of Moonless Void Sword. Despite his knowledge of its previous forms and his ability to learn techniques after seeing them once, even Cheon Ma couldn't grasp the complexity of the final version and needed to see it demonstrated many times.

Thanks to this meeting both successors of this sword technique, Ryu Sowol in form of the spirit and Cheon Ma gained Enlightened. This event inspired Heavenly Demon to create a Demon sword arts based on Sima Chak final form of Moonless Void Sword.
According to the Dam Baek-ha who has witnessed both, old Moonless Void Sword, and improved version, it was shock that such powerful sword art could evolve to this extent.
Even though the sword path moved freely, breaking away from the framework of the original stances, it didn’t deviate from the framework of the Moonless Void Sword. If the sword she had seen from the Elder in the past was filled only with killing intent, the current sword was the embodiment of freedom itself. ‘Undoubtedly. It’s the Elder’s sword.’
When the Heavenly Demon fought in battles that demanded his full power, he began using the Left Sword, Right Sword Technique - simultaneously activating Ultimate Moonless Void Sword with the Evil Commandment Sword and channeling the Sword Force of the Heavenly Demon through the Plundering-Killing Sword. This combination was used in some of his most legendary battles - including his clash with Gu Seong-baek at the Imperial Palace and his duel against the Blade God in the Spiritual Sword Sanctuary.
